Rugby Hackers is the go-to place for information about kids rugby. We've written it for parents who feel out of their depth when their child says they want to start playing rugby.

We provide useful hacks on everything from buying their first pair of rugby books to how to wash their muddy kit.

It can be difficult to understand the rules and traditions of rugby so together we hack through the layers of complexity to get to the basics.

This will allow you to understand the game, enabling you to support your child and enjoy the sport together.

Who are the Rugby Hackers?

Rugby Hackers was brought to you by the team behind the successful website https://www.cyclesprog.co.uk, Cycle Sprog, along with a group of 7 graduate interns from Nottingham Trent University.

It was developed over an 8-week intensive project during the summer of 2023. How did Rugby Hackers start?

After running a successful website for over a decade, the Cycle Sprog founder Karen Gee decided it was time to start something new. Having a son with a passion for rugby, Karen had always struggled to understand what was happening in matches, or what he was telling her after a practice session.

Not because she couldn't understand, but because she'd never been taught anything about rugby. Having already demystified kids' bikes and family cycling for parents with Cycle Sprog, Karen saw there were not enough resources for parents wanting to know more about their child's rugby journey.

At first, the thought of setting up a new website about kids rugby was just wishful thinking - hampered by a lack of time and resources. But then an opportunity presented itself in the form of the Nottingham Trent University Summer Graduate Internship scheme. Seven passionate graduates teamed up with Karen for eight weeks to make her idea a reality.

I certainly began to question my sanity at embarking on this project (and I know the rest of the team here at Cycle Sprog were too!) But it was REALLY worth it. I’ve been blessed with seven incredibly talented and enthusiastic young people (who are certainly teaching me a thing or two – especially about social media!) The seven graduates, Aaliyah Robinson, Aidan Ludford, Choice Onokuah, Etelka Zdechovan, Garth Davies-Paul, Nadine Guzman, and Paras Rahim Baloch took to their responsibilities like ducks to water.

During the 8-week internship, they worked as a virtual team to write, edit and proofread articles, create marketing content, design digital and physical products, and develop the website itself - doing everything that needs to be done in order to have a successful business. Karen’s industry know-how and experience joined forces with the fresh perspectives and enthusiasm of young people. We really hope you find the resulting website useful. If you do, please help spread the word by sharing our story and our website with your friends and family. Oh and you can also follow us on https://www.facebook.com/rugbyhackers and www.instagram.com/rugbyhackers
